To promote traditional Chinese culture and share Chinese stories, the school of international education held a Chinese calligraphy culture practice teaching activity for international students on the morning of November 20 in Room D404 of the main building. This activity attracted more than 60 undergraduate and postgraduate international students from countries such as India and Nepal. This activity not only allowed the students to deeply appreciate the essence of traditional Chinese culture but also provided them with an unforgettable cultural practice experience.
After watching the introductory video Hello, China—Calligraphy, Ms. Dai Rubing from the Teaching and Research Office of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language introduced the relevant knowledge of calligraphy culture from five aspects: “An Introduction to Chinese Calligraphy”, “The Five Styles of Calligraphy”, “The Four Treasures of the Study”, “Appreciation of Masterpieces from Various Dynasties”, and “The Influence and Contributions of Chinese Calligraphy”.
Subsequently, during the calligraphy practice session, Ms. Dai Rubing demonstrated the five-finger pen-holding technique in detail. The students eagerly picked up the brushes and started practicing. From basic stroke exercises to imitating Chinese characters, it was an entirely new and exciting experience for everyone. Under the patient guidance of the teacher, the students gradually mastered the essentials of holding a brush. They held their brushes and wrote phrases such as "友谊万岁(Long Live Friendship)" and "我爱中国(I Love China)" on rice paper, creating their own unique works of calligraphic art.
The international students said that they benefited a lot from this practical teaching activity. They not only experienced the charm of traditional Chinese art up close, but also deeply understood the historical heritage of Chinese calligraphy culture. Through this cultural exchange, their understanding of China became more comprehensive and profound.
